General Description of The Barn

The Barn offers bed and breakfast style accommodation so you can enjoy the selection of continental breakfast items provided free of charge by the owner. A full English breakfast is available from the King George pub should you require it.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a large stove with gas hob (five rings) and electric oven. There are three fridges and three freezers plus dishwasher, microwave, washing machine and tumble drier. There is an i-pod docking stereo system and dining for 12.

The sitting room is upstairs and has Sky 52 inch plasma HD TV, DVD player, CD stereo system, Wii gameset and fantastic views of the surrounding fells. There is also Sky Multi-Room in one of the bedrooms so members of the group don't all have to watch the same channel.

Downstairs there are three bedrooms - two doubles and one with a single and double bed in it. These bedrooms share a bathroom which has a bath and separate shower.

Upstairs there are an additional three bedrooms. One kingsized with an ensuite shower room, and two further bedrooms - one with a double bed, the other with a double and single. These two bedrooms don't have a window due to planning restrictions for barn conversions making them incredibly quiet and perfect for a long lie in in the morning!

Outside is a patio area with adjoining garden. Garden furniture and gas BBQ provided along with outstanding views of the surrounding Eskdale fells. There is also a deluxe 8 seater bar-jacuzzi hot tub out here too. There is a pond with a fountain and this part of the garden can be kept closed if you have small children with you.

Directions to The Barn

The postcode for The Barn is: CA19 1TD

From the South

Leave the M6 motorway at junction 36 for Kendal/Lakes
Follow signs to Barrow (A590)
Turn right to Workington (A5092) 3 miles beyond Newby Bridge and follow this road to Broughton-in-Furness (10 miles)
Turn right to Ulpha before the River Duddon (3/4 mile beyond Broughton)
After 4 miles turn left in Ulpha village to the steep hill signed Eskdale
Follow the fell road to the King George IV pub (6 miles)
Keep going past the King George IV, go through Eskdale village and past the Bower House Inn
Once past the Bower House, turn left (rather than going up the big hill)
Carry on along this road and The Barn is on your right before you go down the hill
There is parking in the yard for three or four cars

Please note: if you have satellite navigation, the recommended route often appears to be over Wrynose and Hardknott passes which can be very lovely but are incredibly steep (England's steepest road with gradients of up to one in three), windy and narrow. Following this route is shorter in distance but certainly not quicker than the directions shown above.

From the North

Leave the M6 at Carlisle (junction 44) and follow the A595 (signed Barrow)
Turn off at Gosforth and follow the road (6 miles) to Eskdale
Once you have gone down the hill into Eskdale, turn a sharp right. If you get to the Bower House Inn, you have gone slightly too far, turn around and retrace your tracks
Carry on along this road and The Barn is on your right before you go down the hill
There is parking in the yard for three or four cars
